Hi lovelies! Welcome back!
Today I wanted to share something that I have been trying to be more intentional about…self care.
I wrote a post a couple years ago about this here. But I just wanted to add a few things + how things have changed since now being a Mama of two.
Self care…it’s a really trendy phrase right now, but for good reason! I think self care simply means not putting your own needs on the back burner. I think SAHM’s and just all Moms in general often forget to take care of themselves. Not taking care of yourself can look different for us all. Maybe it’s forgetting to schedule yourself a hair appointment, or not sitting down to eat a decent meal all day, neglect can take many forms.
It’s no secret that with each additional little cutie added to the family, us Moms have more work. I often spend my “free time” cleaning, cooking, planning stuff for the family, and other Mama tasks. But eventually burn out is inevitable, if we aren’t getting some time to recharge.
What does recharging look like for you?
For me it varies, sometimes it’s getting dressed in a cute outfit and taking some blog photos, or allowing myself to do something fun even if the housework isn’t finished yet (is it ever?!) Self care can be whatever floats your boat! Sometimes it’s as simple as having someone watch your kids while you go get a coffee and buy a new article of clothing, or that new mascara you’ve been wanting to try. It may not seem like much, but let me tell you, it truly makes all the difference!
You are Super Mom
Yep. You read that right. You ARE so totally and completely Super Mom. And guess what? Super Mom needs to be taken care of too. Communicate your needs to your spouse. I’ve learned to not wait until I am overwhelmed to ask for help. I’ve found that while I can take a shower with both kids standing at the door, (Scarlet asking for snacks and Kingsley unfolding all the towels) that it’s much more peaceful to take a hot 20 minute shower ALONE! haha. If getting a little alone time makes me a better Mom, then I need to make that a priority. Being Super Mom means you know when to rest & that relaxing is good for your soul (and sanity).
Make it simple
I know that us Mama’s often don’t have the time or help to always get that alone time or to do things without our children often. On these days, I get creative. Self care doesn’t have to be this big elaborate day planned, it can be a cup of hot coffee while the kids play. It can be a face mask and hair treatment that we look forward to during nap time. Sometimes we only have time for the simple pleasures! Life should be enjoyed, and we shouldn’t feel guilty for not working 1000% of the time.
What do you do for self care as a SAHM?

One of my favorite forms of self care are hot baths, and a podcast, in a QUIET bathroom with my favorite candle. The BEST!

That truly sounds amazing!

Self-care is so important! I am now indulging in it and I love it! My mind feels free, my mood feels better and I can see an improvement in my anxiety.
Caitlin says
That’s so great to hear!! I get occasional anxiety, and I’ve also found this helps!!

You are so right! And it’s surprising how 10 minutes wearing a face mask will make you feel like you went to the spa! These little things can make a big difference!
Caitlin says
Haha yep!! It’s like a little pit stop of self care!

I would rather have a shower alone than an interrupted shower any day. Sometimes I take my shower after the kiddos go to bed just to guarantee that. Nap time is also a chance for me to regroup for the day. I try to take care of me and take care of chores. Great ideas!
Caitlin says
Me too! Sometimes the day is planned around a shower, haha!

Couldn’t agree more with this! Self-care is a super important concept, especially for moms (especially for SAHMs)! I love how you said it’s about recharging; that’s exactly it! And that’s different for everyone, so “self-care” can be whatever you want it to be! Love it.

Yes! Thanks so much for reading, I hope we can all encourage each other to keep up with the self care as Moms!!

Love this!! Self care is so important! Sometimes for me self care is just turning everything off and sitting in the peace and quiet!! Haha it doesn’t last long, but definitely helps recharge my batteries!

I know what you mean! When I have the free time sometimes I just stare at the wall because I’m so used to being busy! Haha!

Yes! Self care during nap time is a great idea! Taking a nap too or painting my nails is my favorite!
Caitlin says
Yes! It can seriously just be those little simple things!
