Hi! Welcome back to my little beauty closet. AKA my little outlet from day to day Mom life. Where I share stuff about “Mom life” go figure! Here is my cute little guy. I’m loving this age SO much. He’s now 3 months and past the super fragile phase and is so deliciously solid!
I was so great about doing a monthly update on my blog with Scarlet, which I love to look back on! But I realize not everyone wants to know in full detail EVERYTHING about my baby each month! First time moms don’t know this, but I’m a second time Mom. 😉 So this time around I decided I would aim do a little update every three months + share tips and products we use. I also am categorizing things so you can skip over anything your not interested in reading!
Colic Relief
King has transformed from a pretty high maintenance colicky baby, into a much easier going dude. I wouldn’t call my boy an “easy baby” but he feels a lot easier after we addressed why he was so fussy in the beginning weeks.
I knew something was upsetting him when he seemed tense a lot of the time, and often times wanted to nurse but then would pull away and cry. He also would be gulping and swallowing randomly throughout the day like he was choking on something. I researched a ton and it seemed like he was experiencing some Silent Reflux. This is where the milk will come back up the esophagus and burn the throat much like adult heartburn. It makes babies very upset as it can be quite uncomfortable. I read about the different options for this, and really didn’t feel comfortable using a “bandaid” type medication that would only temporarily help and could long term do more harm than good. So I bit the bullet and eliminated a ton of foods from my diet. Including my favorite things like coffee and chocolate! Not every baby with colic/gas/reflux is having it due to something Mommy is eating, but often times it is!
I went really cold turkey for a while and was super strict with my diet. I slowly added things back in to see what triggered his reflux. I eat everything the usual now minus gluten and dairy, and that has done absolute wonders! I think dairy in particular was the main culprit for his issues. His reflux is 100% gone! Hallelujah! I would encourage anyone who is going through something similar to really try eliminating dairy if nothing else, as it is the most common dietary cause. There IS hope for that fussy uncomfortable baby, and it’s so relieving to be able to help them! Also don’t worry most babies grow out of needing to be dairy free, as their tummies and digestion mature. I occasionally have a little dairy here and there and it doesn’t seem to bother him if it’s in small amounts.
Parenting Style/Sleep/Baby Wearing ETC.
I don’t like to completely commit to saying I’m “this” or “that”, but what has worked for me is a lot of the attachment parenting principles. Mr. King sleeps with us, breastfeeds on demand, and lives a good portion of the day being worn by Mama. I feel like I am doing basically everything the same as I did with Scar. My babies love being held and always being with me, so it’s really just a matter of convenience for me! Also they are only tiny for so long! I’m such a fan of not caring what other people think and just doing what works best for you though! I know everyone has such a unique set of circumstances, personalities, and babies! As long as our babies are safe and healthy I really don’t think we should feel self conscious about how we make it work.
Baby STATS + Personality
King is approximately 14.5 pounds and 25 inches long! Even though he isn’t really a chubby baby, we always call him chunky because he’s bigger than what Scarlet was at this age. His little legs have a couple rolls and he is a pretty solid little dude. He is a happy boy, but he really likes to be held and entertained! He doesn’t like being set down for long periods of time, but he will tolerate it if sissy is talking to him and trying to get him to laugh. I can already tell Scarlet and he will be the best of friends, especially when he becomes mobile! He isn’t quite rolling over yet…only when he is placed on his side. He has the sweetest giggle and is a pretty social dude. His gummy smiles are everything! It always amazes me how intelligent babies are, he always notices new places/people/ and seems to be making little discoveries all the time. Love watching our boy grow.
Favorite baby products + Where we shop most
I did a whole post on my fave double stroller here. We have this infant car seat and I really like it too. I absolutely love the Ergo 360, and how we can use it as he grows and put him in different positions. My sister gave me this pre wrapped baby wrap from JJ Cole that is now discontinued but this is something similar. We have a ton of lightweight swaddles from Aden + Anais that I use from everything to nursing covers to something to lay him on when we are sitting on the grass. My fave place to get baby clothes are Gap, Old Navy, Carters and Amazon! I was worried shopping for a boy wouldn’t be near as fun as a girl, but honestly little boy stuff can be so cute too!
Thanks for stopping by! If you have a baby at a similar age, please comment! I would love to know what your guys’ tips and tricks are too!
